All About Star Books

A Star Book is a beautiful beginner bookmaking technique! Learn how to design, measure, cut and fold a precisely made star book using paper and illustrations provided by visual artist Natalie Draz.

A set of 3 nested accordion books unfold into a star shape. The book can be unfolded to view each accordion separately, or each accordion can be cut away to reveal what is behind. The Star Book is a very flexible book format that relies on precise folding skills to create a book that springs into a star shape. In addition, participants learn how to make a simple matchbox to store Star Book in safely.

Pop Up Books - Everything You Need to Know about Box Folds and Supports!

Learn the foundational pop-up book techniques behind Box Folds, Integral Boxes and Supports to enter into the world of transforming books. The mechanics of pop up books offer endless variations and possibilities. Using Japanese papers for the interior pages and chiyogami screenprinted by master artisans in Japan, we will make two beautifully bound books, each with a distinctive decorative stitch pattern on the cover.

Print Your Own Cards - Perfect for Birthday Parties!

Using a mixture of antique printing imagery and hand-carved linocuts to print 10 individual cards. We will be using hand-pulled printing and pop up techniques to create cards as unusual as their recipients! Much tea and chocolate will be available as additional inspiration.

Medieval Monsters and Maps, Oh My!

Making a Cartographic-Inspired Flag Book

Using ‘flags’, this book uses two different directions to tell two different sides of a story. Starting from an accordion book, the multi‐direction flags can be created from photographs, written content, or drawings. During the class, participants create a collaged flag book using medieval monsters, topographical maps, and hand‐lettering (provided in class).
